Join us for this workshop exploring self-expression and mindfulness, while practicing the craft of weaving. Amanda will begin the workshop with a meditation designed to open your heart and mind and enhance your creativity.
After the guided meditation, you will be given a simple backstrap loom, easy to follow instructions on how to weave and lots and lots of colorful and textured materials with which to build your creation. Inspired by SAORI, a free-form Japanese style of weaving that emphasizes individuality and spontaneity, weavers will tap into their creative unconscious, selecting colors, size and textures in the moment, not worrying about following a specific pattern.
Weaving engages the mind and body to improve mindfulness and enhance calm. The predictable back and forth motion of weaving is considered a moving meditation technique, and allows each weaver to develop their own individual rhythm while creating a unique piece of art. Come uncover what your inner creative is trying to tell you. And bring along a friend for double the fun!
Each weaver will receive a 6 foot warp (vertical threads), basic backstrap loom to create a 1-2 inch wide strap and access to plenty of weft materials (horizontal threads). The loom can be used and reused nearly anywhere, so no worries if you don’t complete your creation in the studio. Feel free to bring any ribbon, fabric, or yarn that you would like to incorporate into your project or share with the class.
